Mental Models: From User Experience to Business Model Design

What You Will Gain:

  • Master a solid foundation of psychological knowledge, learn new methods of product development using “mental models”, especially the practical methods of user experience, behavioral design, and business model design.
  • Truly understand the purpose of user research and fully master various new user research methods.
  • In product development, use “mental models” to establish the “same set of language” from demand to solution, and be able to complete key judgments in product development based on “mental models”.
  • Understand the problems encountered in internal team management with mental models, and lay a theoretical foundation for leadership improvement.

Course Overview:

The “mental model” is the secret to the success of product development, which determines whether users can understand and accept innovation. Users do not use products “rationally and objectively”, but use their existing experience, analogies and expectations, that is, the “mental model” to explain the product: how it should be used, why it is used in this way, and what the results will be after use. No matter how advanced a new function is, if it conflicts with the user’s existing cognition, the learning cost is too high, or the feedback path does not meet expectations, it is easy to be misunderstood, ignored, or even resisted; on the contrary, if we can use the user’s existing understanding framework to “embed” innovation into their familiar “mental” path, users will not only be willing to try, but also more likely to develop the habit of using the product.

Therefore, the “mental model” is not only the basis of product design, user experience, and behavior design, but also the premise of whether the business model can be perceived and trusted. This course helps you master the user research and product design methods based on the “mental model”, so that you can form a complete set of logic in demand insight, function planning, information architecture, interaction details and value expression. You will master how to present new value in a way that users’ “mental model” can understand, and how to carry new mechanisms with the behavior path that users can naturally take. This will reduce the cognitive threshold and education cost of the product, and improve the conversion and retention. Let product innovation change from “looking right” to “using it as a matter of course”, forming a real competitive moat and achieving success.
